Police, whose job is to protect people from criminals, seem to be helpless as women in Punjab, including Lahore, continue to fall prey to incidents of harassment, acid throwing, rape and domestic violence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The documents, which 24News managed to get hold of, show that only in Lahore, 481 cases of rape were registered during the last 11 months, while in Punjab the numbers shoot up to more than 7, 000.

And out of 481 rape cases reported from the provincial capital, 26 were of gang-rape, while out of 7, 000 such cases reported from elsewhere in the province, 208 were of gang-rape, the documents reveal.

Similarly, three incidents of acid throwing came to light in Lahore during the last 11 months, but when it comes to Punjab, the figures stand at 33.

The record further shows that 136 cases of kidnapping of women, 134 cases of domestic violence and 38 cases of attempt to murder were registered at Lahore’s police stations during the period under review.
