Renowned poet Syed Salman Gilani passes away

Known poet and scholar Syed Salman Gilani passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness, 24NewsHD TV reported.

According to family sources, the 75-year-old had been undergoing treatment in Lahore for multiple health complications.

Born in 1951 in Lahore, Gilani was widely acclaimed for his unique style in ghazals, naat, and satirical poetry, with works reflecting themes of love, sorrow, social issues, and public satire, earning him enduring popularity among audiences.

His father, the late Syed Amin Gilani, was a noted poet and a freedom fighter in pre-Partition India, deeply committed to the cultural and political causes of his era.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Salman Gilani established himself as a leading voice in both religious and public poetry, captivating audiences across generations.

Gilani was also a devoted disciple and close associate of the eminent orator and spiritual guide Syed Ataullah Shah Bukhari, whose sermons left an indelible mark on generations.

In addition, he drew poetic inspiration from the works of Ahsan Danish, blending literary elegance with spiritual insight throughout his life.

 Throughout his career, Gilani participated in countless mushairas, literary gatherings, political rallies, and religious assemblies, earning a distinct place with his eloquent and engaging style.

He was also frequently invited on television channels, where his poetry enjoyed particular admiration among female audiences.

In recent years, Gilani faced several health challenges and underwent a bypass surgery.

Funeral prayers will be held later in Lahore, where admirers, fellow poets, and members of the literary fraternity are expected to gather to pay their final respects and honor Gilani’s enduring legacy.
