Sindh AIDS Control director declines comment on AIDS cases in Valika Hospital

Sindh AIDS Control Programme Director Dr Kanwal Mustafa has declined to comment on Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal’s revelation about the detection of 84 AIDS cases in Valika Hospital in Karachi “caused by negligence”, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to details, Mustafa Kamal few days ago said that 84 new cases of HIV AIDS surfaced after “wrong syringes” were used to administer injections to children and elders.

Sindh AIDS Control Programme has still failed to share details of HIV AIDS cases during the year 2025.

Sindh AIDS Control Programme has now established a screening camp at Valika Hospital in Karachi.

No details were shared about the detection of AIDS cases during the screening process. The AIDS Control Programme also kept all the figures totally secret.

Sources said that dozens of AIDS patients have failed to get treatment in different districts of Sindh.

It is necessary to mention here that the Sindh AIDS Control Programme miserably failed to provide facilities and treatment to AIDS patients despite the availability of a budget worth millions of rupees.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal told National Assembly Standing Committee on Helath Services that the reuse of contaminated syringes at Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital in Karachi triggered an HIV outbreak that infected 84 children. 

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal told lawmakers that all affected children had been traced, registered, and put on antiretroviral treatment.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services members sharply criticised the health ministry over what they described as serious gaps, missing provincial data and weak follow-up in its latest briefing on the country’s HIV situation.
