Constitutional Court refuses to halt inquiry against former NAB DG Saleem Shahzad

The Federal Constitutional Court has rejected a request by former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) director general Saleem Shahzad to suspend an inquiry initiated against him over his alleged illegal appointment and promotion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi heard Shahzad’s appeal against a show-cause notice and the subsequent inquiry proceedings.

During the hearing, the court declined to grant interim relief and allowed the inquiry to continue.

The bench issued notices to the federal government and directed it to submit a response within three weeks.

Shahzad had challenged the show-cause notice and inquiry proceedings, contending that action against him was unlawful.

The notice was issued over allegations concerning his appointment and subsequent promotion in NAB.

He had earlier approached the High Court, which dismissed his petition. Shahzad then filed an appeal before the Federal Constitutional Court challenging the High Court’s decision.

The case will be taken up again after the government submits its response.
