CM Maryam to distribute cattle worth Rs2b among widows in South Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday announced to distribute cows and buffaloes worth Rs2 billion among widows and poor women living in South Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the first phase of this life-changing programme, as many as 4870 cows and buffaloes will be distributed among 11,000 widows and poor women living in twelve districts of South Punjab.

By giving them free cows and buffaloes, the government wants to help them start a small business, like selling milk or raising calves. 

As per Punjab Chief Minister's Livestock Assets Programme, poor women living in Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah, and Kot Addu, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur will be provided free cattle.

The widows and divorced women aged 55 can apply for this programme through an App from her home.

To get free cattle, the women can contact Chief Minister Helpdesk established in Veterninary Hospitals.

Maryam Nawaz said that “we wanted to end the difference between urban and rural areas of our country”.

She further said that “it is right of a woman who is living in rural area to avail same opportunities as per the standard of women living in urban areas”.

“It is a fundamental right of every woman to get education, health and employment without any difference of rural and urban areas”, she concluded as saying.
