SC’s Justice Mansoor sought postponement of JCP's meeting

A letter penned down by Supreme Court (SC) judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has surfaced in which the judge had requested the postponement of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s (JCP) meeting, which was held on June 19, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday. 

In the letter, the judge had said that he would not be able to attend the commission's meeting because he would be abroad.

He reminded that the commission meetings had been postponed in the past due to the absence of any member of the commission.

He wrote that in case the meeting was held in his absence, his opinion be made part of the meeting record.  

He also said that the commission should not formulate any policy until and unless the petitions filed against the 26th constitutional amendment were decided. 

Key decisions were taken at the JCP meeting, which was held on June 19 with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi in the chair.

The commission extended the tenure of the SC’s constitutional bench until November 30.

The commission approved the extension of Justice Aminuddin Khan’s term, along with other members of the constitutional bench, allowing the panel to continue its work on key constitutional matters through the end of November.
