Kieron Pollard becomes T20 cricket’s all-time leading run-scorer

Veteran West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has made history by becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, surpassing the long-standing record of fellow West Indian great Chris Gayle, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

Pollard achieved the milestone during a match in Major League Cricket, where he played a magnificent, unbeaten innings of 100 runs for MI New York against Washington Freedom.

The century enabled him to move past Gayle’s tally of 14,562 T20 runs and claim the top spot on the all-time run-scoring list.

The knock was only the second T20 century of Pollard’s illustrious career.

His first hundred in the format came in 2018 while playing in the Caribbean Premier League.

Gayle had held the record for most runs in men’s T20 cricket since March 28, 2014, remaining at the summit for an extraordinary 4,467 consecutive days.

His dominance lasted more than 12 years before Pollard finally surpassed the landmark.

The achievement adds to Pollard’s remarkable legacy in the shortest format.

Having featured in 736 T20 matches, he is already the most-capped player in T20 cricket history.

He has now become only the ninth batter to occupy the No. 1 position on the all-time men's T20 run-scorers list.

Gayle’s reign remains one of the most significant in the format's history. He was the first player from outside England and Australia to top the T20 run charts, and his tenure at the summit from 2014 to 2026 spanned more than half of the format’s existence.
