Pakistani rupee stays on course against US dollar in interbank

The Pakistani rupee recorded another minor gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, clearly not reflecting the sentiments after Pakistan successfully concluded staff-level agreement with the IMF, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the figures provided by the money traders, the local currency went up by 16 paisas against the greenback and was currently being traded at Rs278.25.

On Wednesday, the Pakistani rupee had scored a margincal improvement against the US dollar to settle at Rs 278.41.

In a key development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharid had said that Pakistan needs another International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme to revive the economy and put the country on the path to development.

While speaking at the cabinet meeting, the prime minister said rising electricity and gas theft, low tax-to-GDP ratio and rapid increase in expenditure need to be dealt with seriously.
