CM Maryam appeals Punjab to celebrate Eid simply amid regional tensions

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to Muslims around the world and the people of Pakistan, urging them to celebrate the festival with simplicity in view of the prevailing regional situation.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, in her message on Saturday, the chief minister expressed hope that Eid would bring peace to every corner of the world and lasting happiness to all Muslims. She described Eid as a reflection of compassion and empathy, stressing that true joy lies in sharing happiness with the less privileged.

Maryam Nawaz emphasised that no celebration could be complete if those living nearby remained hungry or deprived, particularly children who could not afford new clothes or basic joys associated with Eid. She urged citizens to take responsibility for supporting underprivileged families in their communities.

Highlighting the provincial government’s welfare efforts, she said that financial assistance had been delivered to nearly 4 million families, benefiting around 20 million individuals across Punjab. She added that, for the first time, an initiative titled “Maryam Ko Batayein” enabled deserving individuals to receive immediate financial support of Rs10,000 through digital payment services.

She said that caring for people in need was the essence of Eid and a moral, religious and national obligation. Promoting values of brotherhood and compassion, she added, was a way of expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah on this auspicious occasion.

The chief minister also paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country, stating that their contributions would not be forgotten even during moments of celebration.

She concluded by praying for peace, stability and well-being for Muslims around the world, urging unity and harmony within the ummah.
