Asking the government not to put the country to any further test, senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar on Saturday urged those at the helm of affairs to immediately announce the general elections so that the situation in the country could be prevented from going bad to worse, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said that providing protection to the former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan was basically the government’s responsibility. “If Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, who is a convict in a corruption reference, can be provided security, how can a leader of Imran’s stature be deprived of it?” he questioned.
He reminded that masses were the real strength of the party chairman.
Asad also dispelled the impression that the PTI planned to create unrest under the guise of the long march. “We believe in the supremacy of the constitution,” he said.
Meanwhile, talking to the media in Multan, former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he was certain that this time politicians would line up to get party’s tickets for the general elections.
Qureshi further said that now he had no desire to hold an important position or ministry. “All I want now is to see people of the south Punjab progress,” he added.
