Dengue claims four more lives in Lahore, Swabi

Four people died due to the dengue fever in Lahore and Swabi during the last 24 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

At the same time 266 more cases of the fever were reported from the Punjab provincial capital during the last 24 hours as the total number of cases reported from the city this year now stands at 5, 933. 

Presently, 1, 161 patients of the virus are admitted at Lahore hospitals.

Keeping in view surge in the cases, the authorities have increased the number of beds for the patients at city’s teaching hospitals. 

Yesterday, the health department teams inspected 48,891 indoor places, while it eliminated the dengue larvae at 650 indoor as well as outdoor sites.  

One more death in KP from dengue

One more person lost battle against the disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the last one day.

KP health department has said that the deceased belonged to Swabi.

It added that the death toll in the province from the virus had now reached 6. “Total 139 cases of dengue have been reported from different parts of the province. Hence, 4, 504 people are presently infected with the virus in KP,” it disclosed.

The department revealed that 207 patients were currently admitted at province’s hospitals.

Giving more details, it said that 55 new cases were reported from Peshawar, thus bringing the number of positive cases in the provincial capital to 1,643. “23 cases were reported from Haripur and Swabi each while 11 from Mardan,” it elaborated.

92 more cases reported from Islamabad

There seems to be no respite for the people of Islamabad either as 92 more people contracted the fever during the last 24 years. 

According to the District Health Officer (DHO), presently, 2, 429 people are infected with the virus in the federal capital.

Out of total 92 cases reported during the period under review, the DHO informed, 38 were reported from the capital city’s rural areas, thus taking the total number of dengue patients in these areas to 1, 479. “While 54 fresh cases were detected in the city itself,” he said, adding now the number of positive cases in Islamabad stands at 950.

Nine people have lost their lives to the virus in the capital so far.

Dengue patients in Hyderabad reach 145

The situation in Hyderabad, the second largest city of Sindh, in terms of the dengue fever, is also deteriorating as four more cases were reported from the city during the last one day, taking the number of infected people to 145.

Civil Hospital In-charge Dr. Alya Naz told the media on Thursday that currently there were 19 patients of the virus at the hospital.

She said four patients had also recovered during the last 24 hours.

Five more cases reported from south Punjab

The people of south Punjab are not safe from the disease either as five more cases were reported during the last 24 hours, taking the number of dengue patients in the region to 209.

However, no loss of life has been reported from anywhere in the southern half of Punjab.
