The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced to conduct local government elections in two phases starting from December 15, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The KP government on Thursday declared to conduct the local government polls after a continuous goading by the Supreme Court which has directed all the provinces to restore and conduct local government polls.

The KP government would conduct the LG polls in two phases from Dec 15. In the first phase, the local elections for village council and neighbourhood council will be held on Dec 15.

While in the second phase, the voting for tehsil chairmen will be held on March 25.

The Supreme Court on Oct 15 issued a notice to Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal in a contempt case for not obeying its order regarding restoration of the local government bodies in the province. The chief justice of Pakistan asked the LG secretary to inform the court regarding any progress on the restoration of the local bodies in Punjab which are expiring in December.

In compliance with the SC order, the Punjab government on Monday approved the restoration of local bodies in the province. The approval was given at the provincial cabinet meeting.

The Sindh government on Oct 9 announced to hold local bodies elections within the next six months.
