Opposition agrees to constitute joint parliamentary committee for electoral reforms

The treasury and opposition benches have been agreed to constitute a joint parliamentary committee of the Senate and National Assembly (NA) for preparations of the recommendations about the electoral reforms.
The 24News HD TV channel reported on Tuesday that the decision was taken during the meeting between opposition and government leaders with NA Speaker Asad Qaiser here in Islamabad.
Under the agreement between the opposition and the government, the parliamentary committee would consist of members of both houses—Senate and NA.
While separate motions would be tabled in the Senate and the NA for the formation of the joint parliamentary committee on electoral reforms.
The NA Speaker will form a committee in consultation with the NA parliamentary leaders. The main object of the committee is to review electoral reforms and make recommendations.
In the meeting between the government and the opposition leaders, the proposed electoral reforms also came under discussion.
