PM Shebaz to leave for US from London today to attend UNGA session

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for the US from London today to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the UN General Assembly and will also attend a special session on Gaza. PM Shehbaz will present Pakistan's position on the Kashmir issue, Palestine, and the Israeli attack on Qatar during the US visit.

The Security Council will hold a special meeting on the situation in Gaza in September. The Prime Minister will address the General Assembly on September 26. This will be Shahbaz Sharif's third address to the General Assembly as Prime Minister.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will represent Pakistan at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to begin on September 22 in New York.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other senior ministers. 

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the General Assembly will highlight Pakistan’s stance on pressing global disputes, including the unresolved Kashmir issue and the worsening crisis in Gaza. He will urge the international community to take decisive steps to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The prime minister’s speech is also expected to cover Pakistan’s position on regional security, climate change, counter-terrorism, and rising Islamophobia. His agenda includes participation in multiple high-level meetings, including the UN Security Council and sessions on the Global Development Initiative and Climate Action.

Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to attend an important gathering hosted by US President Donald Trump, as well as meetings with leaders of Islamic countries. On the sidelines of the UNGA, he will hold bilateral talks with global leaders and senior UN officials.

The Foreign Office emphasised that Pakistan will use this platform to reaffirm its commitment to the UN Charter and to underscore its role in promoting peace, justice, and prosperity worldwide. The Prime Minister’s participation, the statement added, reflects Pakistan’s strong commitment to the multilateral system.
