Kissan Ittehad chief arrested after bail rejected in power theft case

Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Central President Malik Zulfiqar Awan was arrested from the court premises after a local court rejected his bail application in an electricity theft case.

Additional Sessions Judge Burewala dismissed Awan's bail plea and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Police took the Kissan Ittehad leader into custody immediately after the court announced its decision.

A case relating to alleged electricity theft had been registered against Malik Zulfiqar Awan around a year ago.

Awan approached the court seeking bail, but the Additional Sessions Judge rejected his application after hearing the matter.

After the bail rejection, law-enforcement personnel present at the court arrested him on the premises.

The court subsequently ordered that the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad central president be jailed in connection with the case.

Further legal proceedings in the electricity theft case will continue under the law.
