PIA cancels special flight to South Korea without citing reason

April 22, 2020 11:17 PM

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday cancelled its special flight to South Korea without citing any reason.

The PIA special flight was scheduled to leave the Islamabad international airport for South Korea at 6:00 am on Thursday and its cancellation left more than 300 students, workers and other passengers, who had come to the capital from different remote areas of the country, in the lurch. Also, cancellation of the flight put the future of PhD scholars and graduates studying in South Korea at risk.

Speaking to 24NewsHD TV, PhD scholar Asif Raza said that earlier different airlines cancelled his booking 11 times. He however said that all these airlines informed him in a timely manner and he would not have to come to Islamabad. He said that he arrived in Islamabad from Ghotki and the PIA cancelled his flight just 30 minutes before he arrived in the capital city. He said that he had travelled a distance of 900 kilometres to catch his flight, but it was cancelled.

Raza said he was worried because even hotels were closed in Islamabad. He said that he had booked his seat on the flight for Rs150,000. He said that South Korea had succeeded in controlling the spread of coronavirus to some extent and now their educational institutions were telling foreign students to join classes as soon as possible.
