Iranian president Raisi due in Pakistan today

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Ebrahim Raisi is set to arrive in Pakistan on Monday (today) on an official visit from April 22 to 24, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

All the arrangements to welcome the Iranian president have been completed in Islamabad.

During the visit, President Raisi will meet his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other key figures.

He will also visit Lahore and Karachi and meet with the provincial leadership.

The Iranian President will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet members. The PM Shehbaz will host a dinner for top Iranian officials.

President Raisi will meet the Senate chairman and NA speaker too.

On Monday evening, President Raisi will hold a meeting with President Zardari at President House Islamabad.

President Raisi will reach Lahore and hold meetings with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Governor Punjab. On Tuesday evening, President Raisi will leave for Karachi. In Karachi, President Raisi will meet Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tessori.

Raisi will also visit Mazar-e-Quaid and will leave for Iran on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said that the Iranian President will be accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation comprising the Foreign Minister and other members of the cabinet, senior officials as well as a large business delegation. This will be the first visit by any Head of State to Pakistan after the general elections in February.

The two sides will have a wide-ranging agenda to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran ties and enhance cooperation in diverse fields including trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, and people-to-people contacts.

They will also discuss regional and global developments and bilateral cooperation to combat the common threat of terrorism.

Pakistan and Iran have decided to sign an agreement on mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters during the visit of Iran’s president to Pakistan. 24NewsHD TV channel reported that both countries had also decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the purpose.

They informed that the federal cabinet had given a green signal to the government to go ahead with signing the agreement as well as the MoU with Iran.
