Interior ministry plans advanced airport systems to improve passenger checks

The government has decided to install advanced screening machinery at airports across the country in a bid to improve the checking system and ease travel for passengers, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where officials from the ministries of defence and interior discussed a joint strategy to enhance airport operations.

The meeting focused on measures to improve coordination among departments and provide better facilities for travellers.

Participants agreed that modern equipment would be installed to make the screening process more efficient. It was also decided to establish joint counters and introduce a single-point checking system, allowing multiple agencies to conduct inspections at one location.

Progress on the installation of electronic gates was reviewed during the meeting.

The interior minister stressed the need to ensure faster clearance and smoother travel for passengers. He said that using a single scanner for joint checks by all departments would help save time and reduce congestion at airports.

Naqvi added that improved coordination between institutions would play a key role in reducing queues and waiting times. He said the government remained committed to providing modern, quick and convenient travel facilities to the public.

During the meeting, the defence secretary informed participants that advanced machinery was also being imported to protect aircraft from bird strikes and related accidents at airports.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, Defence Secretary Muhammad Ali, and senior officials from relevant departments, including the Anti-Narcotics Force and the Federal Investigation Agency.
