Religious scholars from across the country, belonging to all schools of thought, on Sunday while condemning incidents of rape of children and women in the country demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed order speedy trials as well as public hangings of those involved in such heinous crimes, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In their joint declaration issued after attending the meeting held with PM Imran’s Special Representative Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi in the chair, the Ulema strongly condemned the rape of a 16-year-old female student by the in-charge of a seminary in Rawalpindi on Sunday and demanded he should be given punishment in full public view.
They were of the view that people belonging to all segments of the society would immediately have to play their part for keeping moral standards of the society from falling further.
Islamic Shariah’s orders for both men and women are quite clear and are in black and white as covering the body parts as well as staying away from vulgarity and nudity was binding on people of both the sexes, religious scholars said in their declaration.
They said there is no room in Shariah for a male even to touch a Na Mehram woman let alone harassing her. And similarly, they added, there is no permission in Shariah for a woman to dress improperly and show off her body parts.
In short, they said, action should be taken in all cases of harassment and rape of women and children; be it the incident of molestation of a TikToker at Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore, murder of former Pakistan’s envoy’s daughter Noor Muqaddam, harassment of girls travelling in a rickshaw or any other incident of this sort at a seminary, school, college or a university.
