The government’s step to install a firewall and web management system in the country in order to slow down the internet speed was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Making the federal government, the Ministry of Information Technology, the Ministry of Interior, PTA, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) DG respondents, the Judicial Activism Panel, in its petition, raised legal objections to the government’s measure.

The petitioner said that letters were written to the concerned officials multiple times to convey concerns to them over the government’s step, but not a single letter was answered.

It was stated in the petition that since the matter was of public interest; therefore it should be debated in the parliament.

The petitioner also pointed out that the federal cabinet’s approval was also not sought for the purpose.

It was also argued that the use of the web management system or the firewall was against fundamental human rights; so, therefore, it was prayed to the court to declare the government’s measure null and void.
