An accountability court in Lahore ordered freezing the assets of Nusrat Shehbaz – the wife of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif – and five other accused in the money laundering reference, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

His son Suleman Shehbaz, daughter Rabia Imran and son-in-law Haroon Yousaf are the other family members affected by this latest orders issued by the court.

Separately, the Punjab government formed a four-member medical board for the imprisoned opposition leader which would be headed by Dr Khalid Mehmood – a famous neurosurgeon.

The development soon after Shehbaz again informed the court head by Jawad-ul-Hassan that medical facilities had not been provided to him as the measures were taken were only for paperwork. 

As Shehbaz said that he received the medical report after three-week-long delay, the judge directed the counsel to file a written application with remarks that he would immediately order the government. “Verbal discussion won’t lead to anything. The medical facility is your right,” he added.

It is worth noting that Shehbaz has repeatedly complained about not getting medical facilities with the party leaders saying that the government intentionally harm him.

During the hearing, Khalid Mehmood – an ECP official, serving in the organisation since 2002 – who was cross-examined by defence counsel Amjad Pervaiz. He said that the accused filed nomination papers for elections and submitted his assets details.

As far as the medical board is concerned, the health and prisons departments issued a notification in this regard. Sources say the doctors will examine Shehbaz at Kot Lakhpat jail where he has been imprisoned.

The sources, the board has already analysed blood samples and radiology tests, but Shehbaz refused sharing his medical history after he was asked to share the same.

It is also said that Shehbaz has demanded inclusion of an oncologist and endocrinologist as well in the board for which he stressing on the names of Dr Arif, Dr Nusratullah and Dr Aqil Babri from the Ittefaq Hospital.
