PIA extends date for submission of applications for retirement scheme
The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received applications from more than 1,300 employees who want to benefit from the airline’s Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS).
Keeping in view the number of applications received so far, the PIA has extended the deadline from December 22 to December 29.
The PIA plans to offer retirement to 3,500 employees under this scheme. According to sources, the PIA has been preparing the retirement plan on the pattern of retirement plans of international airlines like Turkish Airlines. Currently, the PIA has 500 employees per plane and this number is far higher than the per plane number of employees of the Turkish, Qatar and Emirates airlines.
After the VSS volunteer retirement scheme, the PIA management has decided to introduce the mandatory retirement scheme. Sources say that bad performing PIA employees would be given mandatory retirement.
