38 killed, several injured in Brazil bus-truck collision

At least 38 people lost their lives, and several others were injured in a horrific collision between a passenger bus and a truck in southeastern Brazil.

According to foreign media reports, the bus was travelling from São Paulo to the northeastern state of Bahia when the tragic incident occurred. 

Officials confirmed that the accident was caused by a tire blowout, which caused the bus to lose control and collide with a car and a truck.

The fire that engulfed the bus after the crash significantly contributed to the fatalities. Authorities confirmed the death toll, which included the bus driver and a child.

The Brazilian President described the incident as a "horrific tragedy." Local media noted that this is the deadliest traffic accident in Brazil since 2007.

Rescue teams and firefighters promptly responded to the scene, but the scale of the destruction made recovery efforts challenging. Investigations into the accident are underway.
