School principal booked after children dance to inappropriate Bollywood song at funfair

An FIR has been registered against the principal of a private school in Sialkot after a video showing children dancing to a Bollywood song went viral on social media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The case was lodged at Sabz Pir Police Station following widespread circulation of the footage, which showed students dancing during a fun fair event held at the school in the suburban area of Chobara. 

During the event, children were seen enthusiastically dancing to the Indian song Lehnga by Diljit Dosanjh, which was played at high volume.

The lyrics included: “Je tu nachi na mere naal goriye ni lehange te sharab dol du…," which, loosely speaking, revolve around alcohol and adult themes, hardly the kind of content one expects at a school event where some children may not have even grown out of drinking feeders.

Following the video’s circulation online, police registered a case against the school principal for negligence, citing poor judgment and lack of oversight.

Authorities noted that allowing such music to be played and encouraging children to dance to it was inappropriate for an educational environment.

That said, placing the spotlight on the children themselves would be deeply unfair.

The students involved were clearly responding to the beat, not the lyrics.

Expecting minors to analyse poetic references to alcohol is like expecting them to critique classical literature as they were simply enjoying the rhythm, blissfully unaware that they were dancing to lines about liquor rather than lullabies (both of which, at this age, sound the same).

The real responsibility rests squarely on adult shoulders. School principals and staff are meant to be gatekeepers of what is age-appropriate, ensuring that funfairs remain fun without drifting into questionable territory.

It is, after all, their job to decide whether the playlist should include nursery rhymes or nightclub hits.

This episode serves as a reminder that while children will dance to almost anything with a catchy beat, adults must exercise common sense.

Entertainment in schools is important, but supervision is essential.
