Govt have to pay for PECA ordinance one day: Khaqan Abbasi

Alleging that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government wanted to stifle dissent through the promulgation of Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022, or PECA, former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday made it clear to the rulers that they one day they would have to pay for issuing the ordinance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

Talking to the media outside an accountability court in Islamabad where he had gone in connection with the hearing of LNG reference filed against him, he said the government was filing false and fabricated cases against its opponents. “Even the prosecution is unaware what the case is all about,” the former prime minister opined.

He went on to say that Prime Minister Imran Khan, members of his cabinet and NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal did not cease levelling corruption charges against the opposition. “Will the NAB chairman please tell us how much money he has recovered from the corrupt people?” he questioned. 

He also asked advisers to the prime minister on accountability to declare their own assets before pointing fingers at others. 

Abbasi regretted that the government had increased the prices of petroleum products, gas and electricity manifold. “Imran Khan and co have destroyed the country’s economy,” PML-N leader said, and prophesied that the government’s days had been numbered.
