Iran offers US investment role in oil sector during nuclear talks

Iran has offered the United States an opportunity to invest in its oil industry as part of ongoing nuclear negotiations, according to a senior Iranian official cited by a foreign news agency.

The official revealed that an economic package currently under discussion includes provisions allowing American investment in Iran’s energy sector.

However, Tehran has made it clear that it will not relinquish control over its oil and mineral resources under any circumstances.

“Iran’s natural resources will remain under national sovereignty,” the official said, emphasizing that the United States could only serve as an economic partner — and nothing beyond that.

American companies, he added, would be permitted to operate strictly as contractors in Iranian oil and gas fields, without ownership stakes or strategic control.

The proposal appears to signal a calibrated attempt by Tehran to create economic incentives within the broader framework of nuclear diplomacy, while maintaining firm control over strategic assets.

According to the report, Iran is also considering the possibility of establishing a regional uranium enrichment consortium in exchange for recognition of its right to pursue peaceful nuclear enrichment.

Such a mechanism could potentially involve regional stakeholders and international oversight to address Western concerns over nuclear proliferation.

The next round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States is expected to take place in the near future.

The talks aim to ease tensions surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program and explore pathways toward sanctions relief and renewed economic engagement.
