Pakistan received $4.51 billion in foreign funds during ongoing FY, says report

The Economic Affairs Division (EAD) on Thursday released a report on the foreign assistance received by Pakistan during the first six months of the ongoing financial year (FY), 2025-26, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The report informs that the country received $4.51 billion during the aforementioned period; showing an increase by 20 per cent compared with last year.

The report further says that $1.47 billion were received from international donors and friendly countries in December, 2025, representing a marked increase in foreign funding compared with November.

It informs that the country received $1.97 billion in loans and grants from July 2025 and December 2025, while on bilateral basis, $1.70 billion were received in loans and grants during the aforementioned period.

Furthermore, Pakistan received over $30 million in grants from Japan, China and Saudi Arabia.

The report says that the biggest loan of $600 million was received from Saudi Arabia under the oil facility, while China provided to Pakistan over $320 million in loans.

In international organizations, the IDA stands out as the largest lender, while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided to Pakistan over $54.90 million and the Islamic Development Bank $48.30 million.

An inflow of $1.2 billion was recorded between July 2025 and December 2025 through Pakistan certificates.

In order to keep foreign exchange reserves stable, $9 billion have been kept in the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) as term deposit.

The report informs that the amount includes $5 billion from Saudi Arabia and $4 billion from China as safe deposits.

The report, however, says that the IMF’s financing is not included in the SBP’s balance sheet.
