Punjab CM inaugurates Pakistan’s first Green Policing Unit
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the first green policing unit in Pakistan's history, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
After inauguration in Lahore on Thursday, CM Maryam Nawaz inspected the electric patrol vehicle of the Green Policing Unit. Maryam Nawaz also drove the electric vehicle herself.
On the occasion, Maryam Nawaz was given a detailed briefing on the Green Policing Unit and the electric vehicle.
The CM was briefed that Lahore will have its first state-of-the-art BYD electric traffic patrolling.
The electric vehicles are eco-friendly and the range of the vehicle is 410 km per charge.
The electric vehicle charges from 30 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
The electric vehicle is equipped with a modern surveillance PA system, police lights, 360-degree camera and speed detection equipment.
As many as 103 vehicles deployed on patrol consume 28,000 liters of fuel per month, spending Rs7.42 million.
Electric vehicles will save about 4,500 liters of fuel per vehicle annually and reduce operational costs and have zero carbon emissions.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed gradual increase in electric vehicles for Green Policing Unit.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered steps to start Green Policing Unit in other districts in a phased manner.
Talking on the occasion Maryam Nawaz said usage of electric vehicles will lead to reduction in fuel costs and zero carbon emissions.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said Green Policing is a reflection of the vision of clean air and good governance.
