A man accused in a double murder case stemming from honour killing in the Degari area of Quetta was handed over to police on a two-day physical remand on Tuesday.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the suspect, Bashir Ahmed, was produced by Quetta police before Judicial Magistrate Akhtar Shah, who approved the remand request.

Quetta police told the court that accused Bashir Ahmed is clearly visible in a viral video related to the brutal killings of a man and a woman in Degari, allegedly on the pretext of “Karo-Kari,” a traditional accusation involving illicit relations.

On the other hand, the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court (BHC), Justice Rozi Khan Bareech, took suo motu notice of the incident and summoned top officials to his chamber.

Those appearing included Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqat and Additional Inspector General (IG) Admin Syed Wazir, along with SP Serious Crime Investigation Wing Saboor and investigating officer Javed Buzdar.

The police officials submitted a detailed report to the court outlining case progress, suspect arrests, and the exhumation of the victims’ bodies for forensic examination.

The Chief Justice had initiated the inquiry just a day earlier, signalling the judiciary’s resolve to ensure accountability in cases of honour-based violence in the province.
