UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres voiced concern Saturday at strikes carried out by the United States on Iran nuclear sites, calling them a "dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge."

"At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos," Guterres said in a statement. "There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy.  The only hope is peace."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has made a heartfelt appeal to all member states to play an active role in de-escalating the rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

In a strongly worded statement, Guterres expressed deep concern over the recent use of force by the United States against Iran, stating, “I am gravely troubled by the US's military actions against Iran. The region is now standing at a dangerous crossroads.”

He warned that the current trajectory of events poses a serious threat to international peace and security, with the potential to unleash devastating consequences for civilians, regional stability, and global safety.

“There is no military solution to this conflict,” Guterres said firmly. “The only path forward is through diplomacy. Peace is our only hope.”

Calling this a “perilous moment”, the UN Chief stressed the urgency of avoiding further chaos and emphasised that restraint, not retaliation, must guide the global response.
