Senior Puisne Judge Supreme Court Justice Munib Akhtar took the oath as acting chief justice of Pakistan on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of senior judges of the Supreme Court as well as judges from the Federal Constitutional Court and other senior judicial officials.

Justice Akhtar will act as the chief justice of Pakistan for the period Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remains abroad. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Karachi Registry. 

During this period, Justice Munib Akhtar will perform both judicial and administrative responsibilities associated with the office of Chief Justice.

The ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan as well as judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. Senior judicial officers, court officials, and members of the Supreme Court staff were also present on the occasion.

The ceremony concluded after the oath was formally administered, marking the start of his acting charge.
