Qureshi proposes Saarc health ministers moot on COVID-19

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi made telephonic contacts with Nepal and Sri Lankan counterparts and proposed a SAARC health ministers’ video-link conference on COVID-19.

In a telephonic discussion with Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, both foreign ministers discussed steps to curb the spread of the global coronavirus outbreak. He said Pakistan wanted to arrange a video-link conference of Health Ministers of SAARC countries. “We wanted to make the best use of the regional platform SAARC in this challenging time,” he said. Qureshi congratulated Nepal Foreign Minister on the completion of sixty years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Nepal.

Regional countries have a significant regional platform in the form of SAARC and a video conference of foreign ministers of SAARC countries would be arranged, Qureshi said.

Nepal FM keenly appreciated Pakistan's efforts on raising voice to lift sanctions on Iran. He was also invited to visit Pakistan.
FM Qureshi also made telephonic contact with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and talked about the possibility of preventing the spread of the coronavirus. “We consider Sri Lanka as our best friend.”
Qureshi said that a meeting of EU foreign ministers is going to be held tomorrow and in a letter Pakistan stated many developing countries, including Pakistan, are facing severe economic problems due to this global outbreak and due to limited resources.

Iran: FM Qureshi in a telephonic call with Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif exchanged views on global coronavirus pandemic situation.
He expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by covid-19 in Iran and praised the resilience of Iranian people fighting the coronavirus.
Qureshi informed his Iranian counterpart about the efforts made by Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistan at the international level to end the sanctions imposed on Iran.
“We have also requested the P-5 countries to convey this message to their respective countries,” he added.
