Eight children diagnosed with HIV in Sindh, one dies during treatment
Khairpur health authorities have confirmed HIV infections in eight young children admitted to Gambat Hospital over the past 10 days, while one child has died during treatment, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
According to hospital authorities, the affected children are between five months and three years old.
A three-year-old girl, identified as Alisha, died while undergoing treatment, while seven other children remain under medical care.
Following confirmation of the HIV cases, the hospital administration imposed an emergency in the pediatric and gynecology wards to contain the situation and review medical procedures.
Authorities have also barred inexperienced doctors and staff from working in surgery, medical and maternity wards as a precautionary measure.

Director of Gambat Hospital Rahim Bakhsh Bhatti said the facility does not have a dedicated AIDS treatment center.
He said HIV treatment centers are located in Sukkur and Larkana.
Hospital officials have not yet disclosed the source of the infections, while further investigations into the cases are underway.
