Show-cause notice issued to PML-N candidate for code violation

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has issued a show-cause notice to Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) candidate Muhammad Zaman for alleged violation of the election code of conduct, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. 

The notice issued by Returning Officer Hidayatullah stated that based on videos going viral on social media, it has been alleged that cash was allegedly distributed among voters during the election campaign, which is a violation of the Election Act 2017 and the code of conduct.

Returning Officer Hidayatullah has sought a response from Muhammad Zaman within 24 hours.

Warning of action under sections 167, 168 and 170 of the Election Act has also been issued.

According to notice, unilateral disciplinary action will be taken in case of failure to respond on time.

The Returning Officer also ordered to immediately remove all controversial content from social media.

A copy of the notice has also been sent to the Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan.
