The police have run short of petrol funds due to discharging duty continuously amid the long march of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to the police sources, the petrol funds that had been released for three months of the second quarter have finished in one and a half months.
During the long march, millions of rupees had been spent under the head of fuel cost to pick and drop the employees for the long march duty.
In September, Rs1.30 billion worth of funds had been released to Lahore police, but, more than 50 per cent of the funds have been used in the fifth month of the financial year.
In the current fiscal year, out of the total Rs4.5 billion worth of funds, Rs2.6 billion have been spent.
The Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) has sent a letter to the Finance Department for the premature release of the funds of the third quarter.
“Rs1.30 billion worth of funds should be released this month for petrol, or the wheels of police vehicles will stop otherwise,” read the letter.
