Fazaia Medical College closed after 8 coronavirus cases reported

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) authorities have closed Fazaia Medical College for one week after eight positive coronavirus cases emerged on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

It has been reported that all academic activities have been stopped at Fazaia Medical College till November 1st. The Islamabad administration has issued a notification in this regard.

On Wednesday, at least 61 doctors of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences have been infected with the coronavirus. According to the details, 61 doctors of various departments have contracted the virus in the recent Covid-19 wave.

Nine doctors of general surgery department, seven child specialists, seven doctors of medicine team department, six gastroenterologists, five heart specials, two orthopaedics and one doctor of cancer ward have also been confirmed with the virus. The PIMS staff infected with the virus have been quarantined at homes.

It is pertinent to note that coronavirus claimed another 10 lives during the past 24 hours (Wednesday), raising the death toll in Pakistan to 6,702, reported the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday morning.

Earlier, the country had witnessed 19 deaths – most of these in Punjab – on the previous day which was the highest single-day tally since August 8 when 21 people died of the virus. 

On Wednesday, the virus was detected in 736 people. It means a total of 325,480 cases has so far been reported in the country since the pandemic outbreak. 

As per NCOC statistics cases tally details are as follow: Sindh 142,641, Punjab 102,107, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,810, Islamabad 18,438, Balochistan 15,738, Gilgit-Baltistan 4,107 and Azad Kashmir 3,639.
