SHC acquits MQM-London’s Obaid K2 in Ranger murder case

Sindh High Court has acquitted MQM-London worker Obaid alias K2, pronouncing its verdict in a 27-year-old case of Rangers’ personnel murder, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The accused’s appeal for acquittal was accepted on Wednesday, while the life sentence was quashed.

The case was related to the attack on Rangers’ personnel in Liaquatabad in 1998.

Rangers’ constable Dildar Hussain was martyred and Havaldar Mumtaz Ali was injured in the attack.

Accused Obaid K.2 was arrested during an operation at Nine Zero in 2015.

Formal arrest of the accused in the case was revealed in 2021.

In 2024, the ATC had ordered Obaid K.2 to serve life imprisonment and pay compensation after found guilty of Rangers’ personnel murder.

According to police the Rangers personnel were going to provide food to the other personnel on picket, when the accused opened fire on them by ambushing them in the Liaquatabad area.
