Govt attitude towards doctors, their advice is criminal: Shehbaz

April 23, 2020 03:02 PM

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday termed the government’s approach towards tackling the coronavirus and treating the healthcare experts “criminal”.

Everywhere in the world, Shehbaz said in a tweet, the public policy on the coronavirus pandemic was being formulated in consultation with the health experts who were leading the fight.

The disdain and neglect with which the government has been treating the doctors and their advice is criminal, to say the least, he remarked.

The statement came as the doctors in Karachi on Wednesday had called for a strict lockdown, warning that nay laxity would mean the healthcare system won’t cope with the burden.

Addressing a press conference, they said the number of coronavirus were on the rise since April 15, the day when relaxations were introduced in the lockdown.

But they were not the first to raise eyebrows over the lockdown-related policies, as health professionals and the owners of private hospitals had earlier warned that the health system would collapse with the increase in the number of patients.

They had urged the Sindh government to extend the lockdown along stricter measures to deal with the situation.
