Emergency imposed in Rawalpindi following heavy rain in twin cities

A rain emergency had to be imposed in Rawalpindi following heavy rain that lashed the city and the adjoining Islamabad on Saturday morning, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The rain was so heavy that not only were low-lying areas inundated, but water even entered people’s homes. 

Power supply to different localities was disrupted. 

The water level at Katarian rose to 15 feet, while it was recorded at 14 feet at Gawalmandi, prompting the authorities to send WASA’s employees along with machinery to the affected areas.

The Met Office said that the maximum temperature in the federal capital was expected to touch 35 degrees Celsius. 

The breeze was blowing at the speed of nine kilometres per hour, while the level of moisture in the air stood at over 80 per cent.

Dry weather forecast for Lahore 

On the other hand, the Met Office said that weather in Lahore would remain hot, humid and dry during the next 24 hours. 

The maximum temperature in the city would go up to 34 degrees Celsius, while the level of humidity in the air was recorded at 80 per cent in the morning. 

More rains predicted 

The weather department predicted more rainfall for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the next 24 hours.

It also forecast showers for different places in Punjab, KP, north-eastern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, which could result in flooding in streams and nullahs.
