Islamabad United defeated Lahore Qalandars by one wicket in a thriller at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.

This was the seventh match of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League.

After being sent in to bat first, the Qalandars finished at 182-6 at the end of their 20-over inning, thanks to a brilliant knock by Muhammad Hafeez who scored unbeaten 98 runs.

In reply, Islamabad United achieved the target with one ball to spare and 1 wicket in hand. This is the second victory for Islamabad United in PSL 2020.

Islamabad United fast bowler Muhammad Musa made it with the bat as he held his nerves and led his side to victory by one wicket. He scored 17 runs off 11 balls.

Right from the beginning, Islamabad United were in trouble as they lost openers Luke Ronchi (1) and Colin Munro (2) in the first and third overs, respectively.

IU captain Shadab Khan scored match-winning knock of 52 runs off 29 balls. He struck three boundaries and four sixes. He also received man of the match award for his all-round performance. Ingram and Malan scored 30, 22 runs, respectively, which gave the team some stability. Later, Musa and Abdullah added 20 runs for the 10th wicket partnership.

Islamabad United needed nine runs to win from the last over, which was bowled by Usman Shinwari, but he failed to defend these runs.

Lahore Qalandars Shaheen Afridi delivered a magic spell of 4-18 and got his team back into the contest. Haris Rauf took two wickets and conceded 41 runs.

Earlier, Lahore Qalandars set a tough target of 183 runs for Islamabad United to win.

Mohammad Hafeez smashed an unbeaten 98 from 57 balls. His knock included seven fours and 7 sixes. Fakhar Zaman and David Wiese scored 33 and 19, respectively.

Islamabad United Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf took two wickets each.

Islamabad United topped the table with four points after Sunday's victory, while Qalandars remained at the bottom with no win to their credit so far.
