ECP to take up Sunni Itehad Council's request for reserved seats tomorrow

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will take the request for the quota of reserved seats by the Sunni Itehad Council tomorrow, sources said on Thursday.


According to the 24NewHD TV channel, the commission will meet tomorrow with the chief election commissioner in the chair.


The application of the Sunni Ittehad Council will be reviewed in the meeting, the sources said.


The commission will decide whether to award reserved seats to the Sunni Itehad Council or not, the insiders said.


After including PTI-backed Independents, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) approached the ECP for reserved seats for women and minorities.


The council applied ECP, stating at least 50 PTI-backed independent candidates joined the SIC, who should be considered as its lawmakers. The SIC pleaded that seats reserved for women and minorities should be allotted to the party.


The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the list of reserved seats in the Punjab and Sindh assemblies. According to the notification, the PML-N got 36 seats reserved for women in Punjab Assembly. 


It added the PPP was given three seats reserved for women in the Punjab assembly,  PML-Q 2 AND IPP got one. The PML-N got five seats reserved for minorities in the Punjab Assembly, the notification said, adding that in Sindh, the PPP got 20 reserved seats, MQM six and JDA one.
