Euro up Rs1.16, dollar down one paisa against rupee

The US dollar made a token loss of one paisa in inter-bank exchange rate against the rupee on Thursday and closed at Rs167.62 but was available for Rs168 in open market after gaining 10 paisas.

However, both euro and pound sterling showed a strong performance against the local currency in inter-bank exchange rate by gaining Rs1.16 and 90 paisas respectively. By the time trading was closed for the day, the euro was available for Rs194.36 and the pound for Rs213.

In open market, the euro was traded for Rs189 after gaining Rs1. However, the pound shed 50 paisas and closed the day at Rs212.

The last week was closed with these major currencies making significant gains on Friday. In inter-bank trading, the US dollar was up by 34 paisas and available for Rs167.33. Similarly, the euro ended the week at Rs190.54 after gaining 18 paisas. Meanwhile, the pound was traded at 209.89 with 52-paisa gain.

On the other hand, the open market saw the dollar reaching the exchange rate of Rs167.50 with a gain of 50 paisas. Both euro and pound too gained 50 paisas each and were traded at Rs189.50 and Rs211 respectively.

Thus, the dollar gained 98 paisas in inter-bank rate and 80 paisas in open market during the week. The euro, meanwhile, was up by Rs3.08 in inter-bank rate and Rs2 in open market.

Meanwhile, the pound closed the week a gain 52 paisas in inter-bank trading and 2 paisas in open market.

But the current week had started with a big bang as the dollar set a new record in the country’s history as it was traded for Rs168.30 in inter-bank exchange rate after a gain of 97 paisas.

But it wasn’t just the dollar as the euro was up by Rs2.36 and the pound sterling by Rs1.87 during a session where the rupee was bulldozed by the world’s top currencies.

By the timing trading was closed, the euro was available for Rs192.90 and the pound for Rs211.76.

On the other hand, the dollar closed Monday at Rs1.68.80 in open market after gaining Rs1.20. Similarly, the euro was available for Rs191 with a gain of Rs1.50 while the Rs1 means the pound ended the day at Rs212.
