Rahul Gandhi slams PM Modi over Trump's ceasefire claim, demands accountability

In a fiery tirade in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi took direct aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of remaining conspicuously silent over former U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Speaking during a heated session of Parliament, Gandhi questioned Modi’s lack of response to what he called a matter of national dignity. “How can the Prime Minister make a statement now? What will he say?” Gandhi remarked sarcastically. “Trump has already announced it. They cannot admit it, but it’s true.”

The Congress leader emphasised that this wasn’t a one-off remark by Trump. “The entire world knows that Trump has claimed, not once, not twice, but 25 times, that he declared a ceasefire between India and Pakistan,” Gandhi said. “Who is Trump to do this? This isn’t his business.”

Taking a broader swipe at the Modi government, Gandhi called attention to other national concerns. “This is not just about the ceasefire. There are many other crucial issues we need to discuss — our defence posture, defence manufacturing, and Operation Sindoor. The situation is not good, and the entire nation knows it.”

He accused the government and its supporters of hiding behind patriotism while evading tough questions. “Those who call themselves patriots have gone silent or fled the conversation,” he said. “The Prime Minister hasn’t responded even once to Trump’s claims. This is a truth that cannot be hidden.”

The remarks triggered a stormy reaction in the house, with BJP members defending the Prime Minister, while the opposition benches echoed Gandhi’s demand for clarity on the government’s handling of foreign policy and national security.
