SC seeks reply from govt in case of armed forces officers joining civil service sans exam

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday sought a reply from the federal government in the case of joining of civil service by the officers of the armed forces without appearing in the CSS exam, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

A five-member constitutional bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, heard the case. 

The apex court issued a notice to the government under section III of the Civil Service Rules, 1956. 

Speaking during the hearing, counsel for the petitioner Ali Azeem Afridi said that in order to join the civil service, a civilian had to first pass the written test and then the interview. 

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, on the occasion, asked the lawyer, “How does the joining of civil service by officers of the armed forces infringe upon his rights?” 

Later the court adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
