Police arrest man ‘involved’ in rape, murder of eight-year-old girl in Sargodha 

Police in Sargodha on Tuesday arrested the main suspect in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, Muntaha Zahra, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources told the 24News TV channel that Arsalan, the main suspect, was allegedly a drug addict and was involved in similar activities in the past as well.

Three accomplices of Arsalan had been arrested on the very first day.

Police said they were interrogating Hanif, the shopkeeper, his son, and one another person taken into custody in connection with the crime.

Earlier, DPO Sohaib Ashraf constituted teams to nab the culprits.

Police conducted raids throughout the night to arrest them.

Post-mortem report yet to be received

On the other hand, the post-mortem report in the case was still awaited till the filing of this report.

Doctors said that the report would be received within the next 24 hours.

Zahra laid to rest 

On Monday, hundreds of people turned up to attend the funeral prayers for Zahra, who had been raped and then murdered.

With tears in their eyes, people demanded the Punjab government to bring perpetrators of the atrocity to justice.

Earlier, the FIR of the incident was registered.

It was stated in the FIR that Zahra had gone to purchase some items from a shop when Arsalan raped her and then murdered her with a sharp-edged weapon.

It was further stated that the girl’s father had an altercation with the shopkeeper a few days ago.

On the other hand, a CCTV footage showed the girl walking into a shop, not to be seen again.
