President Zardari, President Pezeshkian reaffirm commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Iran ties and regional peace

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, met President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, mainly regional peace and security, bilateral and regional connectivity, economic cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

The Iranian President was accompanied by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Chief of the President’s Office Mr Mohsen Haji Mirzaei, Minister of Interior Mr Eskandar Momeni, Saeed Abbas Mousavi, Chief of Political Affairs of the President’s Office and Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mr Reza Amiri Moghaddam.

From the Pakistani side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chairman PPP Mr Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, ex-Foreign Minister, Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Chief Whip Senate Senator Saleem Mandviwala and Dr Asim Hussain were present during the meeting.

President Zardari welcomed President Pezeshkian on his first State Visit to Pakistan after the recent conflict and noted that the visit reflects the longstanding brotherly relations between the two countries and a desire to stay together in good and bad times. He congratulated President Pezeshkian on the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and expressed the hope that the ongoing technical-level negotiations would culminate in permanent peace in the region.

The President reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled support for Iran’s peace, stability, national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stated that Pakistan has consistently opposed one-sided initiatives and supported dialogue and diplomacy as the means to achieve durable, sustainable solutions to regional and global challenges. He also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to preserving the unity of the Muslim Ummah while maintaining strong fraternal relations with the countries of the Gulf region.

President Zardari once again expressed condolences on the martyrdom of His Eminence Ali Hosseini Khamenei and said that Pakistan would participate in his funeral.

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its positive and constructive efforts in support of peace and dialogue and appreciated the support extended by Pakistan during recent challenging circumstances. He said Iran attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan and looks forward to further expanding cooperation in political, economic, security and regional matters.

President Zardari requested President Pezeshkian to convey his warm regards to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was welcomed at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad with a guard of honour, as he paid a brief visit to Pakistan on Tuesday.

President Masoud Pezeshkian landed in Islamabad on a one-day official visit to Pakistan on Tuesday, with the Foreign Office describing the trip as a reaffirmation of both nations' common aspirations for peace, stability, and sustainable regional progress, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and others accorded a warm welcome to the Iranian president. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto also welcomed the Iranian President at the airport.

President Pezeshkian travelled to Pakistan on Mirage Airlines flight MINAB 168, named after the schoolchildren killed in a US airstrike in Tehran.

Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga was accorded a 21-gun salute, while fighter jets conducted a flypast in his honour.

Dr Pezeshkian was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other high-ranking officials. During the visit, President Pezeshkian will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with the prime minister.

This is Dr Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of Iran.

Earlier, Habibollah Abbasi, Director of Public Relations at the President's Office in Tehran, announced that Masoud Pezeshkian, the Islamic Republic of Iran's President, will leave for Pakistan on Tuesday.

Expressing gratitude to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his mediation between Iran and the United States, the continuation of consultations between officials of the two countries at the highest levels, the continuation of cooperation and consultations between them, and the review and follow-up on previous economic agreements are among the most important programmes during the Iranian president's one-day trip to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Masoud Pezeshkian will undertake a state visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Dr Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers and other high-ranking officials.

During the visit, President Pezeshkian will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with the prime minister.

The Chairman of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister will call on the Iranian President, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

This will be Dr Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of Iran.

“During the visit, the two sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues to further deepen cooperation across diverse sectors, including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity,” it was added.

The visit will also provide an important opportunity to discuss ongoing diplomatic engagements following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The spokesperson further said, “The forthcoming visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to further deepen their historic and cultural ties and underscores their common aspiration for peace, stability, and sustainable progress in the region.”

There were also reports that President Pezeshkian will hold talks with Pakistan’s military leadership.
