Rawalpindi police register second case under PECA Act for viral video

Rawalpindi police have registered the second case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, targeting an individual accused of using social media to incite public outrage against the traffic police.

According to details, a case was filed by the Cantt Police Station, Rawalpindi on the complaint of a traffic warden Imran Sikandar. 

The charges were framed under Section 21(1)(d) of PECA 2016, which pertains to the misuse of digital content with malicious intent.

The FIR revealed that the accused, a shopkeeper, recorded a video of a vehicle being towed away by traffic police for ‘wrong parking’. 

The accused then shared the footage on social media, where it quickly went viral. 

The police maintained that the vehicle was legally ticketed for violating parking rules.

The complaint further stated that the shopkeeper’s video was deliberately circulated to incite public resentment against the traffic police. 

The police argued that this act constituted a punishable offense under PECA 2016.
