Pakistan issues Ebola alert with tightening screening at airports, borders

The Ministry of Health has issued an alert directing the National Institute of Health (NIH) to take immediate measures after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Ebola a global public health emergency, reported 24News HD TV Channel on Saturday.

A spokesman of the Ministry of Health said that the ministry instructed the NIH to ensure preparedness, including maintaining laboratory testing kits for early detection. 

Border health authorities have also been placed on high alert, with enhanced screening of passengers arriving from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo at airports.

Officials warned that early Ebola symptoms can resemble dengue fever, urging medical staff to remain extra vigilant. 

At the same time, the health ministry reassured the public that the situation in Pakistan is under control and there is no immediate cause for concern.

The Ministry of Health said that “NIH is continuously examining the situation”. The Ministry of Health said that surveillance at airports has already been enhanced and precautionary measures as per the international regulations.

The Ministry of Health advised all passengers travelling to African countries to consult with medics and take medical advice.

All the provinces and border health services should keep themselves alert to meet any emergency.
