Punjab CM okays Rs50,000 fine for dumping animal hides at open places

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday approved the imposition of Rs50,000 in fine on those dumping hides of sacrificial animals at open places, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Chairing a meeting via a video link, the chief minister directed that special squads be constituted to ensure that hides and remains of animals were not thrown into prohibited places.

She directed that a campaign should be launched through mass media to tell people that it was hazardous to throw animal hides at open places.

She also directed that in every city drains and canals should be kept clean.

Besides that, CM Maryam said steps should be taken to ensure cleanliness in private housing societies, railway colonies and cantonment areas.

She ordered that special arrangements should be made to keep 2,687 commercial markets across Punjab clean. “In order to ensure cleanliness on Eidul Adha, we have to work like one unit,” the chief minister said, adding that those staffers who would ensure cleanliness on that day, would be rewarded in recognition of their services while those found negligent would face penalties.

Briefing the meeting, Punjab Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique and Secretary Local Bodies Mian Shakeel Ahmad said that markets, main roads and intersections would be cleaned a day ahead of Eid.

They informed that people would be provided degradable bags so that they could stuff animal hides into them, while the Suthra Punjab staffers would go door to door to collect these bags.

These staffers, they told, would remain on the field till the third day of Eid.

On the instructions of CM Maryam, rose water will be sprinkled on Eid congregations and mosques.

The meeting was briefed that 176000 sanitary workers and over 8,000 volunteers would participate in the Eid cleanliness operation, while 3,800 primary collection centers would be set up for the collection of remains and hides, while 3,100 spots had been designated as dumping sites.

It was told that in order to dispose of remains and hides, 7,000 spots would be designated as dumping points.

The provincial minister and secretary said that 4,500 special camps would be set up across the province for the Suthra Punjab Eid Operation, while special arrangements would be made for cleanliness at 1,200 sacrificial sites.

Furthermore, more than 40,000 additional vehicles like loader rickshaws, pickups, mini dumpers and tractor trolleys would be hired to carry out the operation at a brisk pace.

The meeting was informed that Suthra Punjab teams would be deployed at 285 cattle markets and 171 sale points across the province, while control rooms would be set up at the concerned deputy commissioner’s, MD WASA’s and municipal corporation offices.
