The Pun jab Government has proposed to close the educational institutes from November 25 to January 10, reported 24NewsHD TV Monday.
According to the proposal, the educational institutes would be closed immediately from November 25 till December 23 in wake coronavirus while winter vacations have been proposed from December 23 to January 10.
According to the TV report, all the four provinces have agreed on the proposal and a final nod to this proposal will be given in Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference that is currently underway under the chair of Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood that would also be attended by the all provincial education ministers as well as related officials.
Later the Federal Minister for Education will announce the decision in a press conference after the meeting.
As coronavirus cases spiked across the country, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) recommended early and extended vacations.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development and NCOC chief Asad Umar has said the national body suggested cutting short summer break next year to compensate for the early and extended winter vacations this year.
On Saturday, Mahmood said the federal government was recommending closure of schools from November 25 and moving education online. He added that teachers would come to the school and stay in touch with students.
Mahmood said that at those educational institutes where facilities for online education are not available, students would come to school one day and take their homework.
In the last meeting, Punjab has strongly opposed the closure of educational institutes but now has agreed to the proposal.
